welcome to the official site of the 2008 Labor Day oktoberfest

THE BIGGEST WINNER
In the December issue of Cleveland Magazine, staff writer Dave "Coondog" O'Karma recounts the heroic transformation of Kosmo the Wonderdog from chubby treat monger to wing-pawed God of the Budweiser Weiner Dog 35 (a sort of canine Indy 500). Spoils go to the victor—ribbons, public adulation, a harem of devoted... female dogs, and most importantly for Kosmo, TREATS! Turns out, those enticements were all this dachshund needed to leap into position as leader of the pack.
Now a local hero, and a shoe-in for the Weiner Racing Hall of Fame, Kosmo is just a steroid incident or trip to rehab away from national celebrity (perhaps after filling out phony prescriptions for de-worming medication). We'll leave that for his handlers to decide. In the mean time, Kosmo has earned his place in the history books, pages future generations of portly dachshund pups can reference when they entertain stray thoughts that only the fittest survive... that only weiner dogs with chiseled abs and rock hard pecs could hope to don the victor's garland of fresh plucked daisies in the circle of champions at the prestigious Budweiser Weiner Dog 35.

The Labor Day Oktoberfest would like to issue big thank you to all who came out and helped make Oktoberfest 2007 such a wonderful event.
Oktoberfest is happy to announce that the Bier Run netted over $3,391.00 for the Altenheim Skilled Nursing facility. These funds will help the Altenheim in their efforts to provide high quality care to the aging and those with special needs. Thanks to all who participated!
Toni Gossard, who runs the weiner dog races, was thrilled to announce that the races helped raise $245.00 to help buy dog and cat food for the families of Findlay, OH flood victims. "We will be passing out 3 skids of dog and cat food that Iams donated today, and all the money that was raised will be in the store for those pets who do not eat Iams brand food," she stated, adding, "My goal is to feed the pets of the flood families for 6 months." In addition, Coast to Coast Dachshund Rescue and Adopt a Husky raised $438.00 dollars through entry fees, with 219 dogs running in the races. Toni invites any with ideas on how to improve the dachshund races to email her at: weinerrace@yahoo.com
In other news, the Labor Day Oktoberfest Bier Run was a huge success, drawing a pool of just under 200 runners. To view the results from the 2007 Bier Run, click here. The new gallery including photos from both the Budweiser Weiner Dog 50 and the Bier Run should be online within the next ten days.
